Hi, I’m Heather! For as long as I can remember, two loves have been a part of my daily life: nature and children. I first learned about the Reggio Emilia philosophy when I was in college at K-State, where I received a Bachelor’s degree in Early Childhood Education and another in Family Studies and Human Services. One of my professors shared her love for the philosophy, and I identified so strongly with its’ core values. I was inspired, and since my (official) teaching journey began in 2010 have put these values into practice as much as I could. From the moment I walked in the door at the Co-op in 2019, I felt in my soul that I belonged here. Everything about the philosophy, community, and environment aligned with the core of my being and my feelings about children and nature. I am honored to be a part of this beautiful co-op family that holds such a profound love and respect for children and childhood.
I have a very adventurous heart, and in my free time it often takes me galavanting out in the wilderness with my husband Nate and our Australian Shepherd Kaia. Our favorites are hiking, kayaking/paddleboarding, wandering the coast, and staying in guard stations and fire lookouts. I also love riding my bike, working on creative projects, and generally take immense pleasure in trying new things and going new places!
